CHRISTIAN RENEWAL SCHOOL

Christian Renewal School was always part of the foundational vision of Christian Renewal Fellowship. In 1977 it was planned that any church buildings would be multi purpose, i.e. used both for worship and Christian education.

At this time, throughout the whole western world, a Christian education movement rose up to counter the overt humanism, secularism and evolutionary teaching in State schools. In older history the older denominations had extensively carried out education of youth. The 1970's move involved evangelicals and pentecostals/charismatics and represented a new ground swell for Christian values in education.

Most churches could not just start up a school. A ready made system was needed. Accelerated Christian Education (ACE) started in America and was purpose planned to let churches start up schools.

In 1978 Graham Cruickshank and Karen Parker attended ACE courses in Auckland. Karen later met and married Rod Harris in 1984 and together they started up Christian Renewal School in 1993. Graham and Rod carefully drafted the Deed of Integration when the school integrated with the State in 1996. This draft was accepted by the Department of Education and ensured that all our teachers could teach the Word of God rather than only one or two as was the case in other schools. All teachers applying for positions at our school therefore need to be born again Christians and supportive in experience of our beliefs and practice. In this way the integrity of the school's special Christian character is preserved.

Christian Renewal Trust (Inc) continues to invest steadily in our school vision, utilizing school fees and Ministry of Education funding to do so. We have provided Whangarei City and District with low cost, private schooling with Bible based Christian values. Over half the student roll comes from outside CRF. This shows the wider community support the school and receives the need for private Christian schooling. The future for our Christian School is bright.
